Quick summary from Jane Pearson, who looks after this site: I gather very little, I only use it to keep the place running, and I do not sell it. The details follow. Carrying on with your visit means you are fine with them. If that is not the case, please leave.
Your rights over your data
Depending on where you live, the law may give you these options:
- See what I hold and ask for a copy.
- Have mistakes corrected or gaps filled in.
- Ask me to delete your data in certain situations.
- Ask me to pause the use of your data.
- Object to the way I use it.
- Request that it be moved to you or to another organisation.
Send a request and I will answer within a month. The address for this is privacy@reneeolstead.com.
What I may know about you
Things you type in
Name and email address only reach me when you decide to send them, for example by joining the newsletter or writing through a contact form.
Things the server notices
Each visit can register your IP address, the browser and its version, which pages you opened, when you came, how long you stayed and some diagnostic information.
Cookies
Cookies and comparable technology help me follow activity on the site and remember a few settings. Your browser can refuse them or warn you when one arrives, but declining may stop certain areas from working.
What it is for
- Operating the site and keeping it available
- Making your visit smoother and more relevant
- Studying how pages are used, and spotting trends
- Building new features and content
- Answering your questions and requests
- Sending the newsletter and occasional promotions
- Blocking fraud, abuse and anything unlawful
When others get to see it
I do not sell or hand over anything that identifies you. People who help me with the site, my business or my readers may see it as long as they promise confidentiality. I might also disclose details if I judge it necessary to follow the law, uphold the site rules or protect people and property.
Protection and its limits
Administrative, technical and physical safeguards are in place. They are reasonable, not flawless. No protection is impossible to defeat, and nothing sent online can be guaranteed safe from interception or misuse.
